An Overview of the Album "Who Really Cares" by TV Girl by Addison Wright (Pt. 1/2)
TV Girl has become one of my favorite musical artists since the time they first blew up on social media. They have had quite a few popular songs, like "Not Allowed", "Blue Hair", and "Lover's Rock". However, only one of those is from the album in which we will be looking at today. (The songs will not be in album order because as I was writing these, I realized I had my Spotify on shuffle ;-;)
1. Taking What's Not Yours
This song was the song that made me want to write this review. The instrumentals, the lyrics; everything about this song flows so nicely and smoothly throughout the entire song. This song is about breakups and how hard it is to separate the memories from the emotions behind them; how hard it is to forget about the good times you had together.
Some of my favorite lines include:
"Like a Roman Coliseum | A dry and worthless monument to our love"
"You know where to find me | And I know where to look"
Overall, this song gets a solid 9/10.
2. For You
I actually really don't like this song. Like, at all. It doesn't flow well and the samples they use (like they use in all of their songs) is just annoying. This song feelings like they are simply talking to an instrumental. This song is about someone trying to woo the person who has no feelings for them. It shows the pain of giving so much affection and it not being reciprocated.
I genuinely hate this song, which leaves no favorited lyrics.
This song gets a 3/10.
3. Heaven Is a Bedroom
I'm honestly not too familiar with this song. My Spotify likes to skip over it whenever I have my music on shuffle so I haven't heard it many times. The instrumental is once again nice and the lyrics aren't too slow. This feels like one of the songs that would get popular on the internet. This song is about young love and forced separation; a Romeo and Juliet story. However, it does play into some points of obsession.
Some of my favorite lyrics:
"Then you told me how you had an uncle | Who played the villain in those movies"
"I confess to thinking sex was my salvation | When really, they just start with the letter S"
This song is a solid 6/10.
4. Song About Me
To start off, I LOVE the sample they use for this song. It's so nice and simple, but that's what makes it so good. The one they use in the middle of the song isn't as good, but it's still a nice song in general. This song is about another failed relationship
There really are no lyrics that stick out to me in this one.
This song is about a 5/10.
Hi Addison, this is a really interesting and unique blog! Some of the greatest lines in literature are song lyrics, so analyzing lyrics in a blog is a really good idea. I am not familiar with this album, but it sounds interesting so I will make sure to give it a listen!
ReplyDeleteHey Addison! I've recently been kind of getting into TV girl and although I was familiar with some of these songs, after reading this blog I think I'm going to have listen to some of their songs deeper. Thank you for the blog!
ReplyDeleteHi Addison! I love TV Girl, and my introduction to them was 'Cigarettes out the Window' and 'Song About Me'. 'Taking What's Not Yours' is also now one of my favorite songs, the sampling is just immaculate. I love TV Girl's mixing and samples. Great post!
